US Dive shop owners to experience the island's dive attractions first-hand
Dive fam-trip to set sail in Saint Lucia next week
CASTRIES, Saint Lucia (June 10, 2010) - fourteen highly experienced and influential dive shop owners from across
the continental United States will meet on Saint Lucia next week, to personally apprise themselves of the island's
wide-ranging dive attractions. The five-day visit from June 13th to 17th, 2010 is coordinated by the Saint Lucia
Tourist Board (SLTB) in conjunction with the Saint Lucia Dive Association (ANBAGLO).
During their stay on the island, the team will engage in a series of diving expeditions as
well as participate in social gatherings.
The team is well recognized as the leading authority on dive related issues in the industry.
Their recommendations on preferred dive sites to visit around the world are well sought
after in the US and Europe.
The dive shop owners will meet with the executive and members of ANBAGLO, apprising them of the
latest trends and challenges facing the dive sector the world over. The visit will also include site
inspections of some of the on-island hotel properties and various tourist attractions.
Ms. Kelly Fontenelle the SLTB's US Southeast Regional Manager has been instrumental in securing the participation
of the dive shop owners and executives for this trip. She believes that Saint Lucia's dive sector will benefit
tremendously from the latest visit.
She added, "Saint Lucia is no longer just the Honeymoon capital of the Caribbean but is gradually becoming
the new vacation spot for divers and this fam-trip for the dive shop owners is testament of the growing
interest in the island's gorgeous underwater world."
Meanwhile at a welcome ceremony to be held at the Almond Morgan Bay Resort on June 13, the delegation,
who has among themselves raised over EC 3,200 dollars, will be presenting this financial contribution
to the Gros-Islet Primary School.
A spokesperson for the dive team says, "It is worth noting that this visit is certainly not all about
enjoying the beauty and warmth of the island and its people but also to give back in a meaningful way."
Saint Lucia continues to place much emphasis on sports tourism in all of its multiple facets,
as a niche market that can potentially yield very significant returns.
